NBA - Historic Comeback Kills Lakers Championship Hopes

I get up for work every morning at 5:45am so I tend to go to bed pretty early to ensure that I get my beauty sleep. Normally this doesn’t cause any problems but this morning when I woke up and checked the final score from last nights NBA Finals Game 4 I thought that maybe I was still asleep and possibly having a nightmare.

I went to bed last night at half time and saw the Los Angeles Lakers absolutely killing the Boston Celtics in every aspect of the game. They were out running them, getting to the line more, and were more aggressive on defense. Everything was going right for the Lakers, even Jordan Farmar hit a buzzer beater three to make the lead 58-40 going into halftime. No team had ever overcome more than a 15-point deficit after the first quarter, and it was the largest comeback in the finals since 1971.

The Lakers were up by as many as 24 points last night and ended up losing 97-91 to go down 3-1 and now head back to Boston to try and beat the Celtics in the new Garden where they have only lost 1 game all post season (to the Detroit Pistons).

Even though the Lakers are still alive in the series after losing a game like that and now having to go on the road you can’t help but think that it’s over. Even the great Kobe Bryant, who was anything but great last night 19 points on 6-19 shooting, can’t pull this one out. The Lakers had their chance to tie up the series with a commanding win and try and deflate the Celtics and carry that momentum back to Boston. They however decided to throw away that chance and possibly the series. It going to take a miracle for Los Angeles to come back from this one and I don’t think that they have got it in them.
